The Compass Chronicles Podcast: Where Fandom Meets Faith

What Is Your Idol?

Javier M Season 3 Episode 2

Some idols wear team jerseys, others glow in your hand at 6 a.m., and a few look a lot like your best intentions. We dive into the messy middle where good gifts—family, friends, phones, fandoms, and creative passions—quietly slide onto the throne that belongs to God and explain how to put first love back in first place without losing your joy.

We start with a simple heart check: if Jesus and your favorite celebrity said opposite things, who would you believe? From there, we get practical. Javier shares how comics and even podcast hustle began crowding out prayer and Scripture, while Mickey unpacks the difference between healthy enthusiasm and worship disguised as loyalty. We walk through phones and social feeds that steal our mornings, sports fandom that justifies everything from missed church to real conflict, and family love that can drift into control. The point isn’t to become ascetics. It’s to re-order love so that gifts flourish under God rather than replace Him.

We talk discernment as a daily habit: noticing conviction before compromise becomes a pattern, choosing media that doesn’t derail your soul, and asking one clarifying question—can I set this down? We revisit classic Bible moments—from the golden calf to David’s repentance—to show that idolatry isn’t new and neither is the cure. Give God the first fruits of your day, bring plans to Him before you sprint, and trust the nudge of the Holy Spirit when it’s time to step back. Freedom comes when you dethrone idols, not delete your life.

If this resonated, follow Compass Chronicles on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, share the episode with a friend, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. What’s one thing you’re ready to dethrone today?

I would love to hear from you!

SPEAKER_00:

Hi everyone, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to the Compass Chronicles podcast. My name is Javier, and I'm here with my awesome co-host. And I'll let her introduce herself to you because last time I kind of messed up.

SPEAKER_01:

Hi everyone, I'm Mickey, and um thank you, Javier, for having me. And I'm the other fantastic co-host, yay!

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, absolutely. I mean, I'm excited. We're both excited about where this is going. Um, so uh just to get everyone aware, we are new at this video thing. Uh, I'm usually an audio kind of guy, so if I mess up or we both do, this is raw. What you see is what you get. We are who we are, and um, we want to be as honest and as um how do you call it as see-through as we can uh to let people know and be honest. And we're gonna talk about subjects that not necessarily always be fandom-based or um you know anime or anything like that, or pop culture based. We're gonna talk about things that affect us as Christians, as humans, as people, uh, in all aspects of our lives. Um, so to just start quickly, uh, today's episode, uh, we're gonna be talking about idols. Uh, what makes an idol, who's an idol, what can become an idol. So uh with that, I'm gonna let um Mickey start and uh we'll follow from there.

SPEAKER_01:

Awesome. That is so awesome. So again, idols. We think sometimes when we think about idols, it's like we fave we think about our favorite musician or our favorite um um movie actor or our favorite um character in a comic book. And idols could be anything, they could be literally anything, anything that takes the place of God. And we want to be really careful um when we start collecting idols. Some people have multiple idols, by the way.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_01:

Um so before we get going though, I want to I wanna I want to ask our listeners, I want to say something real quick. Let me say something to let this sink in for a minute. If Jesus and your favorite celebrity were to say something opposite of each other, who would you believe? Who would you believe? Great question. So we the other question I I want to say is so, you know, there's a lot of times we say that we love God, but some of us can tell um tell you every detail about your favorite celebrity or character, or even your own children, your own family, your own whatever, you know, whatever it is you're idolizing, but they can't tell you the last scripture they read in the word of God.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01:

So these are things that come to come to surface when you're talking about idols and you're talking about God, who they are in perspective. Is it wrong to have idols? It is wrong to have idols, but it's not not wrong to enjoy things in life. Correct. You just can't get to the point where it's a replacement for who God is.

SPEAKER_00:

Right. And and I think that's where the fear is and where the the that you have to be have some wisdom on what you're doing. Um anything can, like you said, can become an idol. I mean, to me for a while, it was, you know, anime and cartoons and comics. Those became, you know, I was part of a big comic book club. So it it just everything was about comic books, and I can see that it became a big uh stop for me following the word of God or reading, or because I would just that's what all I think of. And that's when it becomes an idol, when it starts to replace your scripture time, your scripture reading, your prayer, your uh your walk in any way, and like you said, anything can be an idol from music to books to reading to collecting, especially collectors. We are obsessive when it comes to things like that. And if we could take that obsessiveness and toward point it towards God, oh my goodness, what powerful people we would be, right? Because all that energy that we take in finding this perfect uh cover or album or whatever, if we seek stuff like that, if we took a minute and seek God like that, man, the way God would open Himself to us would be something we would never be amazing, you know. And um, that's where I see, you know, like I said, anything can be an idol. We can be an idol on our PC, we can be an idol with AI, we can be an idol. Uh having friends. Our friends can become idols. You know, we say best friends, and sometimes our best friends are everything that we do in life. We don't function unless our best friend is with us or we get their opinion or their thought. Now, don't get me wrong, we all have our good best friends. We do people we trust, people we talk to, we share with. But when they become the only person or the only thing that you will open up to, then that's where I think the issue is. If we don't open up to God or talk to God and and pray and and and we look advice from our friends in the human form, not necessarily would it be bad, but it's not necessarily the wisdom that you would get from God or you know, uh from reading the word of God or whatever it may be. So I agree with you on that. Um, and uh like I said, we all have our our idols, and and and I want to ask people what what right now at this moment you consider your idol? What is it that takes your brain and makes you function all day, and that's all you think about? Or is that all that every time you look around, that's always what's in your brain, or whatever? Now, don't get me wrong, imagination, thought, creativity that's all beautiful, that's all something God gives us. And especially when you're an artist or a musician or whatever, sure, it becomes part of you. But when you give that up to God and let Him run your talent and your ideas, it will go farther, it will be better, then if you it then it becomes just that you don't take God into perspective, you just look at I'm gonna record, I'm gonna look, my equipment, this, that, that. And when the first thing should be is like, is God blessing this? Is am I honoring him first and foremost? Period. If it doesn't, then that's when you have to step back and look. Say, wait a minute, what is it that I'm so enthralled with or so um wanna know or want to keep that it just blocks what God blessing has for you? So um, you know what I mean. It's just it can be anything, it could be our cell phones. Yes, you know that. I mean, you can sit, you it's it's amazing, and because when I go out and I'm in a wheelchair, I can tend to see the world in a different view, and I see everyone, especially when you're they're all looking down. I don't think there's a human being that looks straight anymore. There isn't. If they do, they're either our age or a lot older than aren't into tech. But if anyone else, their necks are like this, and they will walk. I don't know how they do it. I it's amazing, they'll do it anywhere, but that becomes your idol because that's all you pay attention. When you wake up the first thing in the morning, you check Facebook, you check uh Instagram, you check. When the first thing you should do is thank God for waking me up, let me read my word, let me get in prayer, let me start my day outright. Um, do we all fail at that? Absolutely, I do too. I fail that a lot because sometimes I have such an idea that I just want to jump on it, and before I know it, I'm like, oh man, I just missed my devotional time or whatever. I mean, you can make that up, but you know, you want to make a routine where you give time to God before anything else. Um, so yeah, I agree with you. And in, you know, and especially in the Bible. The Bible has so many things that become idols, you know. You know, we have the golden calf, that was the biggest thing. Uh, that really showed how people can uh not understand who God is and they want to see something physical, something um in front of them. Like people say, if I don't see it, I don't believe it. Um so yeah, um it's just crazy how how we can in anything become an eye, it can become an idol, it can become your obsession because we also forget that idol, idolism can be obsession too. Like you said, uh when we were talking before, some of us can quote an artist or a movie seen perfectly. Ask them to give you a Bible quote or give you a verse, and they'd be like, hmm, hold on. Or if they do, they give you the verse that's way off. Like it doesn't even like you know, um, now don't get me wrong, no one he we're not Bible scholars, we're not one sec, but you know, you should be a little knowledgeable of the word of God, and and it should be, you know, but if you can learn a whole scene, then why can't you memorize a psalm? Or why can't you memorize a verse in the Bible, you know? So, but anyway, your your thoughts as well.

SPEAKER_01:

So, yeah, I think uh you know, sometimes we think that automatically having idols is just sinful. But God doesn't didn't create us like that, He He created us with imaginable gifts and gifting to utilize that to actually fulfill our purpose. And so, like if you're if you like sports or if you like, I mean, that could be an idol. Look at some of these sports gurus, they were just like they are fanatics, they got their shirts ripped off, they got their numbers painted all over their face, and you know, their hair's painted the color of their team, and it's it's cool to be the the cheerleading for your your team, and that's fine. And God, I mean, that's fun, it's exciting. It's okay to do that, like your favorite music artist and you go to their concert or whatever, and or or shows or whatever, or like you said, even like you know, the stuff that you have, your your own family can become a serious idol, and we have to be careful. But the thing is, is if we give God the first part of our day, God's gonna give us in return the fruit that we're supposed to be we're supposed to be producing. So if we give God our first fruits of the day, then he's gonna give us fruit back. That that means we get to enjoy the things that he's given us, the giftings he's given us, the ability to be an artist, to be um really athletic and and structured, and that maybe you're just a really good bodybuilder or you know, an MNA MMA wrestler. There's some really sad when it comes to throwing people on the ground. Yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yeah. No, I think it's different things. Yeah, any especially when you just said sports. I mean, especially sports, people can become I mean soccer fans. I think they are the best fans in the world. I have I've been to soccer games, my my son enjoys soccer. We I mean, they really get into it. I've never seen that. I think that's so much fun, but it can also become where it becomes riots, it becomes they idolize them. People fight over their teams, murder people over their team. That's when it becomes crazy. That's when it's to me, it makes no sense. Listen, I I'm I'm I like sports, I'm not a sports fanatic, but I do like my my you know, I'm I'm a certain fan of certain teams. Do I follow the teams? You know, I'll I'll watch them in the playoffs and stuff like that. Uh, but not like some people I know that they will not miss a game, they will not miss it, but they'll miss church, they'll miss a Sunday because it's football.

unknown:

That's right.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh man, that's gonna come in the middle of my football day. And they said, I'll watch it on TV. They never will. They never will. Because I've done that. I said, Yeah, my honey, I'll watch it. Yeah, okay, let's be real. You start doing other things or whatever, and it just so yeah, I agree. And especially with and what you said with family. Oh my goodness, we we really that's a big one because I know that if anybody comes near my family, I'm gonna go to jail. People can hear that. I'm gonna go to jail. I mean, God forgive me, God, you know, God understands my love. I think the love that we have for family is the same love that God has for us. I mean, look, he really sacrificed himself for us. We don't deserve it, you know. So we do the same thing for our children, you know. But we also have to be smart that our children are only here temporarily, they're giving it to us as a gift. Uh we are to raise them well, but we can't become obsessed with everything they do. They are humans, they will make mistakes, they will do their own thing. But when that becomes the center of everything and not God, then that's where you have the issue. That's when your person, your it could be your husband, your wife, your kids, anything can become an idol like that. They become an obsession. You've seen so many, we've seen enough movies, read enough books about people with obsessions and people with idol syndrome. Or I mean, there was a movie back, I think about maybe 25 years ago, it was a I believe it was a Wesley Snipes and a De Niro movie, or am I wrong? It was the The Fan, it was called The Fan. It was about this guy who was a fanatic of this baseball player, and he made his life a living hell because all he did was obsess on this man, and you can see that happening in everywhere, like in in in things that happen. Um, it's scary how people can become obsessive of someone or idolize. I mean, a perfect example, Taylor Swift, the Swift and the paparazzis, and the paparazzi. I mean, they are obsessed with this person, like they all the way, like the world of music doesn't revolve unless she says something, and that to me is insane. I don't think any human being is worth it. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my bands, I love music. I I I go to concerts, but they're not, you know, I don't move every time they say something. I don't, you know. Um, but yeah, um, and that's the thing I want people to understand that God gave us all these things in this beautiful world to enjoy. But he is a jealous God. He is he wants us to just honor him. But in honoring his creations, we honor him as well. So, you know, by taking care of our fellow man or watching over each other, um, those are things that I think we should be obsessed, obsessive of how we could help someone else, or what can I do to further the kingdom, or what can I talk to this person about? That's where your real uh idol or obsession should be. And how can I spread the word of God, or how can I help people try to understand that being a Christian not necessarily wipes everything out of the world, the problems don't disappear to me? They technically become a little harder only because you really want to give it to God. And and as humans, we don't like to do that, we don't like to give up our authority or or our will or anything like that. That's that's a learning process. But like I said, if if we become so obsessed um with anything that we do, even our podcast, if our podcast becomes where it's that's all we do, then yeah, we I don't think God is gonna be like, yeah, hold on a minute. Like this isn't gonna be. I mean, it can work. I mean, there are people out there that do things and and they become huge and whatever, but at the end, where what what did when this ends, what did people get out of it? What how did they grow? How do they think? How do they believe? What mark did you leave? And that's one thing I I know I I didn't agree a lot with um what's his name who uh was uh murdered. Um Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk. Yeah, I don't I a lot of things I didn't agree with him, but a lot of things I did. And um he did say one thing in an interview where they asked him, What would you like to be remembered as? And he goes, I want to remember by my faith. I think that I say it now, and my hair stands up. Like, I mean, that that is the ultimate remembrance for anyone. We want people to remember our faith. That's it. Yeah, that's all I think God wants people to remember us by. So um, yeah.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, God is not God is not anti-joy, he's anti-replacement. It doesn't say, God doesn't say, hey, don't enjoy things. He says, Don't don't replace me. You know, and in Matthew, it says, you know, Matthew 22, 37, it says, love the Lord uh with love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, and your mind. If you're doing that, you're okay. You're gonna be okay.

SPEAKER_00:

You're good.

SPEAKER_01:

You know, because nothing gets in the way.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, and and and we're we're not telling people not to enjoy their whatever they do, not to enjoy it, but when it bec like we're trying to tell you if when it becomes your center of your life, that's where the issue is. But like you said, he's God wants us to love him with our hearts, minds, and soul. That to a lot of people is a hard thing to do, right? Because we have, like you said, families, we have things, we have work. I mean, what else can people be idols, their jobs, especially I live here in New York, where it's all about the money. Yes, you know, how much money can we make, how much, you know, um businesses and all that. But um, like you said, if we just give God the attention that we are supposed to give him, or the honor that we're supposed to give him, I think God will then bless you in a way that you may not understand or not even see at the time. Um, sometimes the silence it's what what's the blessing? Not him saying anything, but you, you know, you learning things and understanding things and realize, um, I think God sometimes allows us to look into ourselves and realize what we do without him telling us, listen, you messed up or whatever. I think that's what the Spirit does, that's what the Holy Spirit is there for to you know touch our hearts and say, hold up, you know, what is it that you're doing? What what you know what's your idol right now? And and that's what I want people to to really um get that uh anything can be an idol, an obsession. Um, you know, um I just want people to understand that. Um, like I said, I'm uh my mind races a hundred things in a minute, and I want to say so much, and um it just stays stuck. Um, and I so but yeah, um I just hope people understand that when we say um idols or obsession, we're not talking about uh enjoying a comic book, enjoying a movie, music, concerts, dinner, friends. No, none of that. We want you to do that. God gave us that. They gave us the heart and the will and the mind to do that. That's why He created community and and things. And but you know, when that all becomes all of it, then that's where the issue is, I think, and I believe. Um, I've done it myself. Where this podcast uh became the center of everything I did. Um, the ministry became the center of everything I did. Um and instead of talking to God about it, I was just doing my own thing and thinking that God was blessing it. But it, you know, it was not, it was my work. It wasn't really something that he wanted me or, you know, blessed in that way. So uh I tell people all the time, you know, whatever you want to do, first thing is bring it to God. Whatever the idea is, who cares? It could be the craziest thing. Just tell God, listen, God, I want to do this. Yeah, is it okay? Am I honoring you in doing this? Or if not, what can I do in my idea that can honor you and not destroy anyone or hurt anyone? We never want to create or do anything that would take away from someone's ability to be who they are. I'm not here to judge anybody, I'm not here to uh beat people up. Uh, but I'm here to we we're here to tell you the truth. Uh, and sometimes truth hurts. Uh no one ever likes to hear the truth. Um, and of course, truth is relative, everyone has their own idea what truth is. But if you read the Bible and you understand what he's telling you, that's that's the truth. That's 100%. I mean, I the best self-help book and movie and cartoon you could ever have is the Bible. Absolutely. Read all those stories in the Bible, man. They're excited. I mean, they got spies, they got murder, they got um romance. I mean, it's got everything you can imagine. Every genre is listed in the Bible.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, people don't read it.

SPEAKER_00:

So think about that, right? If God wrote a book that has all our feelings in it, because it does, then why wouldn't we enjoy that? We should get something out of it because it's Him telling us this is what. I gave you. This is weird. You're gonna get angry. You're gonna be selfish. You're gonna be hurt. But read what the Bible says. This is how David did it. This is how Moses was. I mean, Moses didn't want to talk to anybody because he stuttered. And God said, I don't care. I'll give you Aaron. And here you go. Move forward. David. Yeah. And I messed up. David was a murderer. David murdered somebody for a woman. Yes, I think if we do that in this world now, you're going to jail. But God still, he still went. And the thing is, it's not about the sin he did, but that he turned around and said, God, I deserved that. I deserved what did I do? Forgive me. Now, were there consequences to his sin? Absolutely. You can read in the Bible. But the whole point that he went and confessed to God and said, God, I messed up. What did why did I do this? I don't understand. So if all these big guys out there in the Bible, they are big heroes, can go through these adventures. Think about when you read it, and if you're imagining the stories you can make up in your head on just reading the Bible, um, people don't realize that the the you know the psalms and uh and the um oh my god the book of Solomon and all that, they're all poetry, they're songs and poetry. So think about how God put music and words in the Bible and made it beautiful. So why wouldn't we be able to do that ourselves? Why wouldn't someone be able to write beautiful poetry?

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, he gave us all of those gifts. He he gifted us with so many talents and so many traits, and and a lot of times we don't even operate in our gifts because of, well, we have fear of man or because sometimes our idols are in our way.

SPEAKER_00:

Correct.

SPEAKER_01:

Um, if we're idolizing, let's let's say I'm idolizing my children and God has a gift or calling on my life, and I'm not fulfilling that gift because I'm too busy idolizing my family, um, I'm gonna lose that gift. I mean God's gonna take it, and I'm gonna, I'm gonna, you know, there's gonna be a consequence for that. And that's kind of the sad part about it. But I I want to throw a challenge out there too to our listeners, actually. So what when we're talking about idols and we're talking about God, I'm not we're not saying, hey, get rid of an everything and just hit the delete button on everything you're doing in your life. Right. But I want to challenge you to ask yourself this question. Um, if it's not of God, just dethrone it. Just take it off the top of the heap. He doesn't, it doesn't belong on the throne. Only God does. Now, anything below that is fine. But if you're worshiping it where God belongs, dethrone it. So that's my challenge for our listeners today. It's like, you don't have to delete everything in your life, right? Just dethrone what is not of God.

SPEAKER_00:

Right, exactly. And and I and I think that's a great, great point. I mean, when that becomes sits on the throne and not God, then that's where the issue is. Uh, but if you leave God on top and all the rest, may it could mess up, it could be all wrong, but when God, when you put God ahead, he'll let you know what's wrong. He'll let you know, well, you need to go this way or you need to go that way, or where you're going is okay, stay on this, or you know, and I'm not talking, man. I want people to understand when I say God's, I'm not talking about a verbal, I don't hear God. I mean, God bless if you do. I mean, that's amazing, but it's very audible. Yeah, but God can speak to your heart, and that's the spirit, and that's why he gave us the Holy Spirit, so he can talk through the Holy Spirit to us. So, you know, because I don't think if anybody heard God, we'd be crazy, we'd be like, Oh my god, someone's talking to me. What the heck? You know, so I think it'd be the spirit in us will let us know this is wrong or this is good or you're going the wrong path. He did say he was gonna leave us someone who's going to comfort us and understand us. So yeah, I think the Holy Spirit has a big part in things that we do, mate, in anything when it comes to imagination, creation, artist, everything. Uh, if the Holy Spirit is telling you, listen, I don't we, you know, you're not feeling comfortable, or you're pushing it, that's when you have to turn back and say, God, it's just becoming my idol, it's just becoming something that's not, you know, it's the spirit talking to me, what's going on. And sometimes it could be a person calling you that day and telling you, yeah, listen, or you can read a verse in the Bible and be like, oh man, that's God talking to me, telling me right now, listen, don't do this, or go ahead. You know, um, I don't know if that's happened to you. I know that's happened to me a lot, especially when I'm in a situation and I just pray and I and sometimes it could be a post that someone puts up.

SPEAKER_01:

I'd be like, whoa, that hit me right there, and like, dang, that's that's that's so But have you ever heard the opposite where you read a post and it just strikes you the wrong way and it just irritates you and then and then out comes out comes this person that you don't like about yourself, and you're like, oh I'm and you're doing this, this is what you're doing. You're like, oh man, oh man, and you're giving it to him, oh yeah. And then you have you go back and you read it and you're like delete, you know, because you're like, okay, I got that out of my system, but I'm not sharing that.

SPEAKER_00:

For sure, for sure. Oh my god, help me. I'll type stuff, yeah. I'll type stuff, oh yeah, really? And be like, nah, I can't say that. I can't do that, you know. I'm like, nope, scratch that for sure. And and and I trust me, especially when it comes to social media, there's a lot of things that piss us off or get us angry. Um, but like we were talking before, people will stand up for their politicians, their idols, their people. But who stands up for Jesus when someone's mocking him? Who stands up for God when someone is saying God doesn't exist? Who stands up for the person, the marginalized person, the person that's hurt, the martyrs, the people that are getting killed for their belief? That's where our attention should be. Not, you know, um people that are not going to bless you or benefit you. No, no. Um, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of musicians out there in the songs that if I listen to it are just as powerful if I listen to a praise song. They're just as powerful because of the words. I'm a big word fan. If the words hit me, then you know, I'm I I love it. But like in anything, you know, uh, it could be bad, it could be good. Um, and also another thing I want people to have is discernment. Have discernment, have wisdom. The Bible says wisdom, right? Um, to be uh, what is it? I'm I'm gonna quote this all wrong, but be as as doves and then be as you know, wolves and stuff. So we have to be sharp, we have to be ego-like, we have to really ask God uh anything in music, in videos, or whatever you're watching, or whatever, God, is this gonna affect me in any way? Or if it starts to affect you, if you start to have thoughts that aren't godly thoughts, I think you should just walk away from it and not bother it. Uh, I'll give an example. There's an anime that I absolutely love this anime, but it has way too much fan service. And if you don't, if people don't know what fan service is, it is an adult type of anime, it will show um sort of situations and and things that aren't for kids, they're made for adults. But the storyline is so good, and it's so but I know the more I watch it, the more it's gonna affect me because there are scenes there as a man and stuff that no matter what you are, it will affect you. You have emotions, you have feelings. So I'm not gonna go through that. I'm not gonna put myself in that position, even though I love it. Yeah, but then that's when discernment comes in because there are animes I watch that are very rough, and but I know that they're not gonna affect me because I know where I stand, I know who I am, I know who God is, I'm I'm enjoying this. I'm not looking at it in a way where it's an obsession, it's just something I'm enjoying watching, and um, that's where I see it. Like when that totally becomes everything that you want, or or that takes over, you know, and you know that it's hurting you, you know that it's affecting you, but you still want to keep doing it, and you want to still keep watching it, and you want to still enjoy it, fine, go ahead. But there are consequences at the end of this. There's gonna be some some fallback on this. No matter if you don't think it's um physical, but it could be emotional, it could be spiritual, especially spiritual. Um when you start to become weak, that's when the devil walks in and starts putting thoughts in your head and starts to put things in your head and say, Well, you know, you watch this one, eh, watch the next one, it's not gonna be that bad. And before you know it, you're watching some really, really bad uh it could be anything. You could be reading a book, uh uh one of those um Harlequin novels, those love novels. Some of them are rough, some of them do some um scenes that are whoa, like it makes your brain become because imagine you're reading, you have to imagine that. And that's something you shouldn't be in your mind, unless you know, uh, I'm not telling people not to read them, but be be smart about it. You can enjoy um uh any type of book.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, like you said with the discernment, I think if God like gives you a little bit of that conviction that we all get, um, you have to ask yourself this question if can I lay this down and walk away from it, or am I so obsessed with it that I can't put it down? And there's like shows where I binge watch and like I am like just eating my chater chips and I'm pigging out on my whatever, and and I'm just next episode, next episode, next and I'm like robotically watching it because I can't wait for the next one. I'm like, hurry up, you know, and it's coming on in five minutes, you know, or three minutes.

SPEAKER_00:

So so but um like I like I agree with you on that totally, and and I and especially with binging, especially now with Netflix and all these things where they let you binge a whole show in a day. Um, don't get me wrong, I love binging. I'll sit there and eat crap and do whatever. But there's a time and place for everything, yeah. Um and sure, but if you can binge uh a movie, then you can binge a couple of chapters in the book, you can binge a half hour and reading the and praying. 15 minutes out of your day is not gonna stop your day, you know, and it's not gonna help, it's not gonna be the one to um make you not follow God or not. That's what makes you wanna, even if it's five minutes, to say, God, like this is what I do, and and and and I'm very transparent. I get up in the morning, the first thing I tell God, God, I'm gonna mess up today. I know I am, I'm gonna screw up big time, but I want to ask for your guidance and your forgiveness right now. And that's you know, and with that, you know, I want to let people know that if you feel God is there, just go to him, talk to him, say, listen, I don't I don't understand, or I have this dream, this idea, uh, I don't want it to take over my life, but what can you direct me in? Because ideas can become obsessions too, so and and idols. So, but with that, I hope everyone understands where we were coming from, what we're trying to explain. Um, we are uh here to help people um just to learn ourselves and and to have conversations that people can enjoy and that can be a blessing to you.
